Having a partner is a requirement for soldiers in basic combat training and special training, but it's something some people can't imagine not having.
"It's a good idea to have someone with you when you're out on the field," says Vanzant. It's always good to have someone there to watch you, on and off the pole. "

"Having your teammates here is a great way to meet people," Hill said. "We don't spend as much time (practicing), but we spend a lot of time together."

Hill said he had a similar situation with an ex-combatant and soldier in need. Without an opponent, he added, it might be more difficult to manage.
"I was able to help a female soldier who was being led by some men," Hill said. "Maybe it would have been different if it wasn't for my opponent and me."
Students from AIT Pvt. Jeremiah Downing and Pfc. Justin Loftin has been working together for over a month now and they say the system has worked well for them.

"In basic combat training, you stick with your opponent," he said. "I realized later that my equipment helped me get to where I am today."
Brainstorming is another benefit of Thompson's peer-to-peer system as a CEO. He taught her that everyone has their own way of looking at the world.

WOC Joseph Keel, 10th-23rd Class, Warrant Officer Co. 1, said his experience in the system was similar to WOC training.
"There is very little difference between the situation (before the WOK) and the situation now," he said. "Now I don't have just one opponent, I have many people. We are individuals, but you can't take it from a bubble. We are always a team and decisions affect the team."
